Dec. 5, 2008 (China Knowledge) – Chinese stocks ended lower in the morning trading session on Fri after a weaker close on Wall Street.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, lost 0.36% to close at 1994.35 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange gained 0.88% to stand at 7194.03 points.

Market heavy weight PetroChina<601857><857><PTR>, the nation’s top oil producer, lost 1.29% to close at RMB 11.46, while Asia’s largest oil refiner Sinopec<600028><386><SNP> reduced 0.69% to RMB 8.69.

Bank of China Ltd<601988><3988>, one of the country’s major four state-owned commercial banks, dropped 1.22% to RMB 3.24, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC)<601398><1398>, the largest of China’s Big Four state-owned banks by market value, edged down 0.76% to close at RMB 3.93.

China Life Insurance Co<601628><2628><LFC>, the country’s largest life insurance company, went down 0.55% to RMB 19.81, while Ping An Insurance (Group) Co<601318><2318>, China’s second-largest insurer, edged up 1.86% to RMB 26.23.

China Vanke Co Ltd.<000002><200002>, the country’s largest publicly traded residential properties developer, edged up 2.93% to RMB 7.37. Gemdale Corp<600383>, one of the largest property developers in China, gained 2.76% to RMB 7.82.
