Nov. 9, 2009 (China Knowledge) – Sands China Ltd, the Macau unit of Casino operator Las Vegas Sands Corp, is expected to raise up to US$3.83 billion through an initial public offering in Hong Kong and is set to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Nov. 30, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed sources.

The Casino operator plans to sell 1.87 billion shares priced at the range between HK$10.38 to HK$13.88 to raise up to US$3.33 billion, the source said, adding the company also has an option to increase the deal size by 15% to raise US$3.83 billion in total.

The firm plans to use the proceeds to repay its debt and restart a casino-resort project on the Chinese enclave.

Citigroup Inc, UBS AG, Barclays PLC and Goldman Sachs Group Inc are reportedly hired to handle the IPO, which is expected to be the second largest IPO in Hong Kong after China Minsheng Bank<600016>.

Oct. 6, 2009 (China Knowledge) – United Gene High-Tech Group Ltd<0399> booked a net profit of HK$745 million in the fiscal year ended Jun. 30, 2009, compared with a loss of HK$68.62 million last fiscal year.

Earnings per share were 12.83 HK cents, according to the firm’s annual report. United Gene High-Tech did not recommend a final dividend.

United Gene High-Tech attributed the profit to the recognition of the gain of about HK$631.4 million upon its release from a bank loan and other liabilities and the gain of about HK$134.5 million upon the deconsolidation of the company’s subsidiaries.

The company’s turnover during the same period was HK$374.4 million, up 18.11% year on year, boosted by the distribution of gene testing services, which started in May of last year.

United Gene High-Tech Group, based in Hong Kong, is mainly engaged in businesses such as distribution of pharmaceutical products and provision of gene-testing services. The firm has two subsidiaries: Main Wealth Ltd and Bestdone Ltd.

Dec. 5, 2008 (China Knowledge) – Chinese stocks ended lower in the morning trading session on Fri after a weaker close on Wall Street.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A shares and B shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, lost 0.36% to close at 1994.35 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index on the smaller Shenzhen Stock Exchange gained 0.88% to stand at 7194.03 points.

Market heavy weight PetroChina<601857><857>, the nation’s top oil producer, lost 1.29% to close at RMB 11.46, while Asia’s largest oil refiner Sinopec<600028><386> reduced 0.69% to RMB 8.69.

Bank of China Ltd<601988><3988>, one of the country’s major four state-owned commercial banks, dropped 1.22% to RMB 3.24, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC)<601398><1398>, the largest of China’s Big Four state-owned banks by market value, edged down 0.76% to close at RMB 3.93.

China Life Insurance Co<601628><2628>, the country’s largest life insurance company, went down 0.55% to RMB 19.81, while Ping An Insurance (Group) Co<601318><2318>, China’s second-largest insurer, edged up 1.86% to RMB 26.23.

China Vanke Co Ltd.<000002><200002>, the country’s largest publicly traded residential properties developer, edged up 2.93% to RMB 7.37. Gemdale Corp<600383>, one of the largest property developers in China, gained 2.76% to RMB 7.82.
